Students' Home

Ramakrishna Mission Shillong opened a “Home” for tribal students in the year 1952 with only four inmates. 73 years down the line, today this ‘Home’ houses 26 tribal boys, across diverse local tribes such as Chakma, Naga, Khasi, Jaintia etc. The students study at Laitumkhrah Bengali Higher Secondary School, which is a 10 minutes walking distance from the ‘Home’. The Home houses students from classes 5 to 10.

Apart from school activities and academic pursuits, the students are encouraged to nurture their skills in various fields of arts, music, and sports. Regular tuitions by experienced teachers are provided, to aid and compliment the students’ school progress.  Interactive sessions with the help of Internet, and smart classes with the help of Projectors and presentations are also provided according to necessity.

The Home strives to maintain a cordial and harmonious balance between academics and overall character building and value inculcation, and pays attention to students individually, in the hope of securing a future for them which not only shall be prosperous but also shall be in sync with the ethics and moral framework of the society.

Our aim is not to deliver career-oriented professionals but to provide the country with citizens who will appreciate the cultural heritage of our Motherland, its Spiritual orientation, and thereby be a strong force in taking us forward, in holistic and confident strides.

Admissions

Admission forms are available every year, only for Tribal Boys, generally for classes 5 and 6, at Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home, or at Ramakirisna Mission Ashrama Office, or at Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Quinton Road. No ONLINE FORMS are provided, guardians of the applicant must secure a hard copy of the form after entering the required information in either of the three designated form Distribution centers.

Forms generally are released during the month of October or November, which will be notified on this website, along with contact details. Advertisements in the leading newspapers, ‘The Shillong Times’ and ‘Mawphor’ will also be made. Guardians or any relative of the applicant may collect the form and must submit it, after properly filling up the form, on or before the last date of submission.

An admission test comprising of a written test and an Interview will be held on a date that will be mentioned in the forms, and after the dual evaluation is over, the name of the selected candidates will be displayed on this website and also the guardians shall be informed.
